Elevator surveillance, remote video monitoring, adaptive video transmission, intelligent scene analysis
Elevators often become target areas for criminal activities such as robberies, fighting, and vandalism. Traditional security monitoring systems are expensive and ineffective. This article proposes a remote intelligent elevator monitoring system known as Eleview. Apart from supporting live or stored video transmission over the Internet, it also provides intelligent monitoring and web-based monitoring. Intelligent monitoring analyzes human movements in the elevator to detect abnormal or criminal activities. As the transmission of live video data through the Internet environment can result in packet loss and quality degradation, the Eleview system implements an adaptive transmission and recovery mechanism to enhance the quality of real-time video transmission. This article discusses the design and implementation of the Eleview system.
