Plagiarism
What is plagiarism?
ACTA Press defines plagiarism as the verbatim copying or paraphrasing of ideas or words without properly citing the author or the source. This includes:
- Verbatim copying of another author's words but not differentiating the text from one's own (i.e. not using quotation marks), with or without proper citation;
- Copying equations, diagrams, processes, results or computer codes that are not common knowledge, without proper citation; and
- Verbatim copying or extensive reuse of one's own previously published work without proper citation (self-plagiarism).
What is ACTA Press' policy on plagiarism?
ACTA Press has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism. Not only is it a serious breach of professional and ethical conduct, it may also be in breach of copyright and intellectual property laws. ACTA Press now utilizes advanced plagiarism detection software called iThenticate on each submitted paper and will investigate every allegation of plagiarism.
If a paper that has been submitted to an ACTA Press journal has been plagiarized in whole or in part the following measures may be taken:
- The paper will be rejected; and
- The author(s) will be prohibited from submitting papers to ACTA Press journals in the future.
All authors are deemed to be responsible for the content of the papers that have been submitted to ACTA Press.
What is ACTA Press' policy on self-plagiarism?
- The Editor-in-Chief may require the author(s) to include a full citation to the original paper and make modifications to the submitted paper to include a discussion of the previously submitted paper; or
- The paper will be rejected.

Impact Factor
What are Journal Impact Factors?
An Impact Factor is a number designed to represent how often the papers from a particular journal are cited. By measuring the frequency of citations, this number is meant to offer a level of prestige and value to those journals whose articles are cited most frequently. As publishers, we do not generate this number ourselves. It should be noted that even those who do generate an Impact Factor warn that this number should not be regarded as a definitive guide to the value of a journal. For example, newer journals will not have the same citation frequency as older, more established journals, but this does not necessarily imply the lack of value of the newer journals.
Open Access Journals
What are Open Access Journals?
Open Access Journals are a recent concept in journals publishing. They allow unlimited, free, open access to all articles in the journal to all interested parties. This gives the authors the maximum possible exposure to their work within the academic community and promotes the sharing of research and ideas to the widest possible audience.
Publication costs for Open Access journals are met by the author for example, using funds from the author's institution or research grant. These charges replace the traditional subscription charges for articles, and unlike traditional journals, the authors retain the copyright for their articles.
