Abstract

A bifurcation theory is applied on the second system of the IEEE second benchmark model to investigate the complex dynamics of the system. The case of neglecting the dynamics of both damper windings is considered. The results show that as the compensation factor (µ = Xc/XL) increases the operating point loses stability via Hopf bifurcation point. Also, we investigate the influence of adding damper windings along the d- and q-axes to the generator.
