This paper presents a new painterly image filter for automatically generating a colored pencil drawing from a 2D color image. The technique applies the existing LIC based pencil filter to the R, G, B components of the source image. A new color gradient based stroke direction definition technique is presented for orienting strokes in a way well depicting textures and the region boundaries.
