Abstract

This paper introduces an automatic image enhancement technique that analyzes color histograms across multiple dimensions of imagery (e.g. a time and/or space image series, such as videos and volumes). This analysis produces a nonlinear tone mapping transform that improves contrast and brightness, maintains relative color values, and preserves data from the original imagery. Visually improving such multi-dimensional imagery without the expense of data loss and color shift is done by computing a composite histogram, then analyzing that histogram to produce a transformation function, which is then applied.
