Classroom Research, Video Analysis, InternationalComparisons
The paper outlines the methodological challenges posed by contemporary classroom research and the new techniques of data collection developed to address these challenges. Most importantly, the role of available advanced technology is specifically discussed with regard to data collection, data storage and data analysis. Examples are provided of the types of complex data sets made possible by the new technologies, of the means by which such data is configured and stored in a form accessible to analysis, and of recently developed software customised to support the analysis of complex video-based data. In each case, the theoretical and methodological entailments of the new supporting technology are discussed.
