This paper bridges the gap between the theory of learning objects and real applications. On the basis of widely accepted standards like IMS Content Pack aging and SCORM we have developed a common ap plication programming interface (API) for learning ob jects. We used the XML bindings to develop an own object-oriented binding (OO binding) for modern pro gramming languages. Our own implementation in Java will demonstrate the advantages of this approach.
