This paper examines an online demonstration course developed to help prospective students understand a course management system. The demonstration was required in the admissions process for a distance delivered B.Ed. program. Student responses to an integrated self-evaluation instrument are reviewed. The authors conclude that prospective students were able to find and review the sample course, however not every prospective student viewed the sample course as fulfilling a need prior to applying to the academic program. Most survey-completers stated that it was helpful to them. The module allowed academic administrators to get a sample of the hardware, software, and technological literacy of prospective applicants. The readiness module appeared to reassure some prospective students of their ability to cope in an online teaching environment.
