Abstract

This paper discusses the issues that arose during the development of a unique DVD for use in Diabetes education. The project was developed under the auspices of the Diabetes Education and Training Unit by a multidisciplinary team involving academics from Glasgow Caledonian University, and clinicians from the National Health Service to provide new training materials for doctors, nurses and other health professionals in the early diagnosis and treatment of diabetes in the UK. The use of DVD technology has allowed the training materials to be presented in a variety of ways, in a widely accessible format. In addition during production the use of novel production techniques in this context allowed extensive use of real clinical interviews which greatly enhances the range of materials presented within the DVD.
