Abstract

A simulation model was developed based on determination of the Value Engineering and Strategic Analysis Group, to reduce the cycle time of a train delivering product A to a customer. A simulation model of the a train carrying product A (Unit Train A) was designed and developed to examine its current state using collected data from April, May, and June of 2002 which included travel times between the stations. The model allows the testing and troubleshooting of different options in order to increase the company's domestic market share. The model could also be used to optimize the operation of the Unit Train A and the various performance measures.
