This paper describes a very small Ka-Band terminal for multimedia communications developed at the Communications Research Centre (CRC) Canada, as part of its on-going R&D program to design technologies tailored to Ka-Band satellites. It integrates new concepts developed at CRC such as direct I&Q modulation, transmitter compensation and flat antenna technologies resulting in a very small terminal that can be transported and deployed very quickly by any non-technical person. Its size and power requirements make it particularly attractive for emergency or newsgathering applications in remote areas.
