mesh smoothing, distance equaliza tion, normal-controlled smoothing
The 3-dimentional model reconstructed from the real world often contains undesirable noise. How to remove the noise has become an important problem in computer graphics and computer-aided design. In this paper, a new algorithm based on distance equalization is presented for generating fair surfaces. For every vertex of the model, we first calculate the distance from this vertex to its aver age plane. Then move it in the normal direction to equal ize these distances. We also use normal-controlled smoothing method to prevent boundary shrinkage. Ex perimental results illustrate the efficiency of our algo rithm.
