The determination of the direction of arrival (DOA) using ring arrays is a useful tool for the practical study of propagation conditions. The method has been discussed in the literature for the case where the plane wave assumption is justified. In this work we extend the previously published theoretical results to the case of short-range measurements. An alternative algorithm for DOA and range estimation based on ring arrays is proposed. Results of extensive numerical simulation are presented as a complement to the theoretical analysis.
