Abstract

This paper introduces a second order statistical (SOS) sub space method for blind estimation of finite impulse re sponse (FIR) channels in OFDM systems exploiting spa tial redundancy with an antenna array at the receiving end. The technique is robust to virtual carriers (VCs) and pos sesses the advantage to preserve the classical OFDM emit ter structure based on cyclic prefix (CP) insertion. There fore it applies to all existing standardized multi-carrier sys tems (DAB, DVB, etc.). We also propose very simple zero forcing (ZF) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizers which can also be used in recently proposed zero padded-OFDM (ZP-OFDM) systems. Monte Carlo simu lations are used to provide examples of performance.
