The analysis of switching dynamics of pulse switching in a nonlinear directional coupler is extended to the cases involving nonidentical fiber cores. A pair of new coupled mode equations that describe the switching dynamics of optical pulses in two nonidentical parallel waveguides with the consideration of dispersion properties of the coupling coefficient are presented. By employing the Fourier series analytical method [1], we have solved the equations numerically, and investigated the ultrashort pulse propagation in a two-nonidentical-core directional coupler under various physical conditions.
