IP over optical networks, optical cross-connect, lightpath, connection admission control.
We propose and investigate different connection admission control (CAC) policies for the connection establishment of label switched paths (LSPs) in IP over optical networks. We examine the effect of the number of add/drop ports of optical cross-connects (OXCs) on the network performance for two different network topologies. Simulation results show that the policy of establishing LSP connections first in the optical layer achieves a better network performance. It is shown that the minimum number of add/drop ports required for OXCs to achieve a good network performance depends on the number of the wavelengths carried on each fiber link, the traffic load and the network topology.
