Lightning overvoltage is the most frequent fault in power distribution circuits. Research has shown that the attractiveness of grounded structures such as trees, buildings and masts can have a great effect on the overvoltage disturbance of MV lines due to lightning strokes and flashovers. This work examines the shielding effect of a nearby tree to an MV distribution conductor with both experimental data analysis and electro geometric modeling.
