Abstract

A variety of tools exists for accurate planning of telecom munication networks. The results of such simulations are often presented in two-dimensional graphs or fig ures, which may be insufficient in the case of complex three-dimensional environments. In this paper, three dimensional simulations of IEEE 802.11g (Wi-Fi) net works in indoor environments are carried out. The numer ical method called finite-difference time-domain is used to solve Maxwell’s equations in this wireless indoor applica tion. Utilizing freely available software for scientific visu alizations, the results from the simulations are presented as three-dimensional distributions. With these tools we have obtained highly detailed visualizations of the power distri butions in an indoor wireless network. We also demon strate the possibility to utilize three-dimensional maps to intuitively show how the influence of electrosmog, in the form of noise and interference, deteriorates the expected rate of data transmission. Finally, visualizations have been created to demonstrate how the use of different building materials influences the final power distribution.
