Abstract

A new method of moving mesh generation on a surface based on the Kohonens Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) is proposed. This method belongs to a class of methods in which the mesh is an image under an appropriate mapping of a fixed mesh over a computational domain. Unlike the conventional methods of this class, the proposed method does not require solving complicated systems of nonlinear partial differential equations, is able to work with arbitrary initial mesh and is easy to parallelize. The method uses a stochastic algorithm to adapt the mesh only around the areas of large surface changes in time.
