Models of viral infection, time delay.
The paper presents a model of viral infection in a cell population, in which both spatial spread of infection and interferon-β-based immune response are taken into account. The model enables testing different scenarios in which either infection prevails or is defeated by the immune system. Moreover, simulation results show intertwining rings of infected and uninfected cells, whose width depends on model parameters. The models shows why, despite small number of infected cells remaining after a period of time, the infection can sustain itself.
