Agent based modeling, Epidemiology, Healthcare
This paper outlines a range of agent based models, in order to illustrate the diverse and powerful utility and potential that agent based models offer over alternative technologies. Several areas are overviewed which have been investigated by the authors directly. These include institution- and community-level modeling of routine interactions as well as critical incidents in human and animal populations. Additional work by others is referenced across a number of diverse applications. In each case, extensions are presented which are typically not as applicable to more traditional equation based models. Many of these extensions arise from data that is becoming more widely available now than ever before.
