Sedimentation, water intake structure, mathematical model, CCHE2D, HEC-RAS
A framework of mathematical modelling was applied to investigate the flow and sediment pattern at Ijok Intake, Ijok River, Perak, Malaysia. Ijok Intake was constructed to supplement the Kerian Irrigation Scheme via Ijok Canal. Ijok Intake is facing sedimentation problems that reduced the flow capacity into Ijok Canal. This paper presents the applications of one-(HEC-RAS) and two-dimensional model (CCHE2D) to simulate hydraulic and sediment transport. Results from HEC-RAS were used as input for CCHE2D. A turbu- lence closure schemes (Parabolic Eddy Viscosity (PEV) and Mixing Length Model) and several sediment transport functions were tested. Results indicated that PEV scheme and Wu equation were suitable to represent the hydraulic and sediment transport in the study reach, where good agreement were obtained between computed and measured data. Different flow conditions were simulated to obtain the perfection. Results showed that the rate of flows affect the sediment distribution and accumulation along the study reach. The combination of HEC-RAS and CCHE2D models are able to simulate the flow and sediment pattern at river intake for solving the river engineering problems.
