Abstract

Actual energy crisis has led the search of new competitive technology and the efficient use of the existent one, using renewable energy sources such as solar energy. In refrigeration and air conditioning area, many alternatives are being developed; the solar refrigeration is one of the most promising areas due to the efficient energy use. Thermal comfort demand is increasing and it is related to high radiation levels, this constitutes an opportunity area for solar energy usage in air conditioning. There are commercial solar air conditioners developed for the climatic conditions where the technology was developed, so, they are designed to operate in hot climates but not in the specific conditions of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. In this research, through application of energy integration techniques such as, exergy and exergoeconomic analysis, the modeling and design of a single stage solar absorption air conditioning prototype of 5 kW load using LiBr-H2O as working fluid was selected to be built and operated in the Yucatan Peninsula where the average annual and maximum temperature are 26°C and 36°C respectively, although temperatures have been recorded daily maximum 43 °C. Savings about 15.24% of the electricity costs will be obtained in a sustainable way
