Microgrid, energy storage systems, optimal planning, standalone,grid-based harmony search
In this paper, a novel grid-based multi-objective harmony search (GrMHS) is proposed for optimizing the location of all distributed energy resources in the distribution network. The increasing renew- able energy sources (RESs) integration in the distribution network can pose more challenges in maintaining stable grid operation due to their intermittent and uncertain nature. This paper analysed extended microgrid operation of a distribution network operating with constantly varying loads, renewable sources such as wind and solar, conventional generation and energy storage system (ESS). An operation strategy is also proposed for economic commitment of controllable sources and ESSs to maintain stable microgrid opera- tion in the presence of uncertain RESs. The constraint of renewable source available bus limits is also incorporated to study the impact on the objective functions. Moreover, the proposed planning ap- proach with GrMHS is implemented in the IEEE 33-bus system and Indian 85-bus distribution system to validate its effectiveness and two comparison metrics were evaluated and compared with robust NSGA-II and other forms of the multi-objective harmony search algorithm to support the results.
