Proposed first-order SMC, conventional SMC, integral SMC, voltage vector control, distributed generation system, grid-connected mode and microgrid mode
This paper presents a newly developed first-order SMC to operate the five-level diode-clamped inverter based distributed generation system (DGS) so as to exchange the active and reactive power/current between this DGS and the distribution system. The proposed first-order SMC has a new control law, which includes a new combination of an innovative power-rate reaching law along with an integral form of the sliding surface. This proposed first-order SMC is utilized to design a control scheme that operates the DGS to work in both grid-connected mode and microgrid mode for balanced and unbalanced loads. The meritorious performance of the proposed first-order sliding mode based control scheme is justified by comparing its performance to the conventional SMC, integral SMC, and the voltage vector control for different operating conditions. The simulation results are provided to validate the operation of the suggested control scheme such that the DGS can accurately inject active and reactive power/current at different operational modes.
