Abstract

As all kinds of new Internet and Web technologies have been emerging and advancing, to obtain information from the Internet is all the rage. However, the exponentially increasing Internet contents along with the rapid expansion of the Web applications cause the problem of information overload. One solution to solve the above problem is to personalize the network applications for individual users. In this paper, we present a generic framework and characterize the main issues in personalizing information services for wired and wireless networks. We categorize the information services into two types: user-passive and user-active, and develop two prototype systems accordingly as expository examples. The evaluation results show that both the systems are able to successfully model the individual user and service personalization can thus be achieved.
