Abstract

This paper describes the structural analysis and operation of static converters built of real reactors and capacitors. Such converters are used for supplying single-phase loads from a three-phase source. The converter elements and their parameters are determined in such a way that the source phase currents are of a symmetrical system. Contribution of the paper is that the losses dissipated in the converter elements are taken into account by the theoretical analysis of the converter performance. Another contribution is the development of a method for calculation of the source phase currents by considering the losses dissipated in the converter elements. The solutions refer to resistive, inductive or capacitive loads. A three-phase system with such converters was simulated and it was observed that the outcomes match excellently the analytical results.
