Abstract

Power quality problems in electrical industrial systems (EIS) are manifested in failures of electrical and electronic equipments, automation processes and disturbances in the power system. Switching compensators (SC) or active power filters have demonstrated effective harmonic compensation of non-linear loads in residential and commercial applications. In this document, the use of shunt SC for power conditioning in different industrial plants loads on the basis of instantaneous p–q theory is analysed. The industry study cases are characterized according to their management loads based on commercial system analysis recommendations. The obtained results are in agreement with the limits of harmonic standards in IEEE 519 and demonstrate an improvement of harmonic compensation even with high variability.
