Abstract

Accurate charged particle beam simulations are desired for modelling plasma physics problems or for designing microwave/accelarator technology devices. In complicated geometries, it might be preferable to use unstructured grids, for example, to be able to select between several issues in the design of high-power microwave devices. In this framework, we have proposed a numerical method for solving the three-dimensional time-dependent Vlasov–Maxwell equations on unstructured grids, based on a continuous Galerkin approximation. In this paper, we present numerical results obtained on characteristic three-dimensional applications: an open electromagnetic problem without any particle coupling and a microwave device example.
