User Model, User profile, Human Error
The user profile is an essential element for the user interface design. Usually it consists of a list of attributes considered relevant for the context of use in which the system will be inserted. Along the years this list of attributes has been adapted but it remains a profile description based on recommendations from the user interface area. This paper proposes to take the practice of creating a user profile beyond the current level aiming to integrate elements of the user cognitive behaviour. It discusses how to expand the typical user profile on this direction and its implications to the user interface from the ergonomic point of view. The discussion is in the context of user interface design for automation systems since in this context the prevention of human errors is directly influenced by the knowledge of the user profile and cognitive behaviour.
