Gasoline, residual, component, organic matter content, water content
Petroleum hydrocarbons and organic solvents are one of the major contaminants in the groundwater and the soil environment. Risk and exposure assessment for soil and groundwater environment are very important for both aspects of health and environmental protection as well as making decision of remedial goal for engineering activities. To understand the risk levels of toxic chemicals, risk assessment model (Geo-environmental Risk Assessment System) have been developed. Although parameters related to the fate of hazardous chemical compounds such as advection, dispersion, volatilization or sorption are important factor in this system, those parameters for mineral oils have not been investigated enough. In this study, we studied the fate of gasoline and gasoline components in unsaturated soil to obtain many parameters for gasoline. A set of batch experiments were carried out understanding the effect of different conditions on the residual concentration of gasoline and gasoline components. The residual concentrations of them were proportional to organic matter content and water content. And organic matter content related to the residual concentration of C10 - C13, meanwhile, soil water content related to the residual concentration of C6 - C9. Additionally, aromatic compounds tended to remain in the soils that include much organic matter.
